Frequently Asked Questions
Do conservatives really care about the environment?
Yes. We believe conservation is a core conservative value. The quality of our environment directly affects affordability, agriculture, infrastructure performance, and national strength. Managing land, water, and energy well is a governing responsibility, especially in a country as large and resource-dependent as Canada.
What does a conservative approach to environmental policy mean?
A conservative approach to environmental policy focuses on keeping costs off families, strengthening infrastructure, and supporting industry and trades, while making sure Canadian policies are realistic. We are finding sustainable solutions that will make Canada more competitive on the global stage and maintain Canada’s status as a leader in environmental policy efforts.
Why does CCEN exist? Aren’t others already advocating for environmental stewardship?
We believe there is a growing gap in Canada’s political landscape. As a national, non-profit organization, we are committed to advancing environmental leadership that reflects conservative principles. We are the country’s only environmental network built by and for conservatives. Our work is to equip and support elected officials, staffers, candidates, media influencers, and grassroots leaders across Canada's conservative movements who are ready to lead on climate, conservation, and clean energy without compromising their values. CCEN is paving the way for balanced dialogue for the benefit of all Canadians and for future generations.
What values guide a conservative approach here?
Conservatives believe in building a strong, thriving Canada, one that will be appreciated for generations to come. We do this by building reliable systems, strengthening economic freedom, and keeping our leadership accountable for responsible stewardship of the assets we all depend on. One way we do this is by championing scalable, technologically oriented solutions—nuclear, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, efficiency, clean fuels—that compete on performance and cost.
How does CCEN approach energy, infrastructure, and resource issues?
We believe it is critical that Canada’s energy systems, infrastructure, and natural assets are managed in ways that benefit all Canadians and strengthen our national sovereignty. Conservatives approach these issues as questions of governance and competence. Our focus is on affordability, reliability, and long-term resilience.
What does any of this have to do with Canadian sovereignty and independence?
In an era of unstable global politics, having strong, well-managed energy and infrastructure systems in place reduces Canada’s reliance on fragile global supply chains and foreign inputs. We need to focus on what actually works and what will strengthen Canada over time.
Are conservatives too late to this conversation?
We recognize that environmental policy has largely been shaped by progressive voices. This has left many conservatives feeling uncertain about how to speak about issues of climate or conservation. But conservatives care about the environment too, and have always emphasized stewardship of the land, system responsibility, and conservation. We believe that conservative voices belong at the centre of Canada’s environmental conversation.
How does a conservative approach to environmental policy help with workers and trades?
Investments in energy systems, infrastructure, and resilience create stable, skilled jobs across the trades and engineering sectors, often in regions that depend on resource development. We seek to ensure our national policy is working for everyone across the country, because policies that ignore rural Canada are not sustainable.
Who is this for?
CCEN exists for those who want to have a role in shaping how Canada manages its energy systems, infrastructure, and natural assets in a way that reflects conservative principles. We work with elected officials and policy practitioners, while also building a broader network of grassroots conservatives who want to contribute to serious, responsible policy conversation.
